On Sunday, May 19th at 3 p.m., Jacob Efthimiou will perform at the Phelps Mansion Museum during its Chamber Concert Series at 191 Court Street in Binghamton. Jacob will be accompanied by Wei-Tang Huang on the piano. Tickets are $20 general admission $15 members and seniors, Students $5.00 and children 13 and under FREE. Cellist Jacob Efthimiou is a graduate student of Brian Manker at the McGill University Schulich School of Music, and holds a Bachelors degree from the Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Amir Eldan. He attended the 2015 Aspen Music Festival and School as a student of Darrett Adkins, and studied with Martti Rousi in summer 2016 masterclasses at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki,Finland.
Efthimiou has performed solo recitals in Canada, the United States and the Republic of Panama, and has been featured as soloist with the Colorado College Music Festival Orchestra, the Oberlin Freedom Orchestra, The Empire State Youth Orchestra and the New York Summer Music Festival Orchestra. With his quartet – the Iceberg String Quartet – he won the 2017 McGill Chamber Music Competition, and later represented McGill at the Haagse Hout Festival in The Hague, Netherlands. In the summer of 2018, the Iceberg Quartet studied with the Eybler, Parker and JACK string quartets at the Banff Centre Evolution of the String Quartet Program in Banff, Alberta. An avid educator, Efthimiou taught music at the Aspen PALS Program in 2015, and for the Oberlin Secondary Lessons Program throughout his undergraduate career. In 2016, he traveled to Panama to teach at the Campamento Musical Juvenil through the Oberlin Panama Project, and later returned to that country to found and direct the Young Soloists of Panama Cello Program, and to coach string quartets at the Panama Chamber Music Workshops. Efthimiou grew up in Delhi, New York.
