ONLINE EVENT: Paging Through History

May 16, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Please join Dr. Chelsea Gibson for a conversation in the Phelps library on Saturday, May 16th from 12-1PM. Chelsea will be discussing a book from our library collection by Theodore Roosevelt called “African Game Trials” (1910). The book is based on an 1909-10 trip that Roosevelt took with his son Kermit as part of an expedition funded by the Smithsonian Institution.

We’ll chat a bit about Roosevelt, the origin of the trip, the book’s popularity, and some of its legacies, both positive & negative.

You are welcome to check out the book before our conversation. You can find it & download a PDF for free from Google Books (https://bit.ly/3cEbx2l). (Note: we’re not reading the book, but you are welcome to!). You might also be interested in watching a short film “Theodore Roosevelt in Africa” that you can find on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ_QeeHHEZw)

This event will be hosted on the Phelps Mansion Museum’s Facebook page as a live event.
