Thursdays at the Museum: Lunch and Program

Join the Phelps Mansion on Thursday April 13th for lunch and a program.  Doug Weeks will present “Dr. Crispus Rumex” a mid 1800 herbalist.

Title: The Doctor is in – Healing with Herbs

Lunch starts at 12pm and the program begins at 1pm.

Dr. Rumex was trained as a doctor at one of the leading medical colleges.  During the resent unpleasantness between the states he served as a surgeon and healer.  He saw quite enough of modern medicine and began to explore alternative healing methods.  Spending time with other healers he re-discovered the wonderous healing power of plants.  Thus began his intensive studies as an herbalist using wild plants and items to cure most every ailment currently known.

Dr. Rumex makes use of the very plants that we see every day.  Using a mixture of tonics and decoctions he has a cure for whatever may ail you.  He has been known to cure individuals that did not even know they were ill.

His fun-filled presentation will make you think of the old-time medicine shows that once were common. He mixes storytelling, natural healing and a bit of history as he offers cures to various members of the audience.
